Ile-de-la-Cité

Ile-de-la-Cité is the place where it all started. On this little island which can be found in the middle of Paris the first citizens settled down, which laid the foundation for today’s Paris. In 508 King Clovis I. named it the capital, even though the city only expanded to the areas outside the island around 900.

On the island today we can find important attractions such as Notre-Dame, the Conciergie (where Marie Antoinette awaited execution in 1793), the Palais de Justice and the Sainte-Chapelle.

The easiest way to get here is by taking the metro to “Cité”
