New pissoirs in Paris – Do you like them?

Paris has gotten some extra attention in international media lately because of their new eco-friendly pissoirs (urinals). Take a look at them yourself and tell us what you think!

The open-air urinals are created in order to make men urinate less in the streets of Paris. That is a nice thing, and Paris is not the first city to create such open-air urinals in the middle of a city. If you travel to Amsterdam you can see very similar things.

The urinals in Paris are colored red, and they have plants at the top of them. The urinals have a straw layer to make sure that there will be no smell, and the pee itself will be turned into nutrients that can later be used in parks and for plants all around Paris. So, the intention is noble.

There have been some similar open-air urinals in Paris for a while, but the most recent addition has made people both complain and laugh.

The newest open-air pissoir in Paris is located next to the River Seine. This gives the needy a beautiful view while peeing, but it gives a special view to the tourists enjoying a peaceful ride on the River Seine. A tourist cannot watch the noble parts of the person peeing, but they can watch the facial expression of the one doing so, and that is too much for some people.

So, what do you think about the new open-air urinals in Paris? Do you like them? Would you mind having such a pissoir located near where you live in your hometown?
